Race to the Top Round 2 Finalists

Eighteen states and the District of Columbia were named finalists to in the second round of the Race to the Top competition. There is $3.4 billion left for the program and 1o to 15 winners are expected to be announced in late August or early September. Source: Education Week

    Hi Lily -
    Many states enacted legislation or changed regulations to conform to the USDE model of “change” and did so in anticipation of and with the expectation that federal funding would pay for these changes.

    Now that only a few of the state proposals have been accepted, will the “non-selected” states now have to have their legislatures or state education agencies go back into a special session to “un-do” the changes that now would translate to another unfunded mandate that would impact state and local budgets?
