Communities for Excellent Public Schools released a new analysis of the Obama Administration’s school turnaround policies. The analysis “criticizes the administration for taking ‘top-down school improvement efforts’ that are part of No Child Left Behind and thinking that they will somehow be successful by ‘adding teeth.’ It says that they ignore a growing body of research about what does work” and calls for more parental and community involvement. This will be my 21st year of teaching high school English. I contributed to, campaigned for and voted for Obama, and I am bitterly disappointed with the anti teacher and anti public school wrecking ball called “Race to the Top.” I am also disappointed in both the CEA and the NEA for behaving like doormats. You both have demonstrated cowardly behavior by your refusal to take a strong stance against “Race to the Top.” What is your official position on it? I would like to see it stated clearly and prominently on your home page.
