Class Matters. Why Won’t We Admit It?

In a New York Times op-ed, Professor Helen Ladd of Duke University and journalist Edward Fiske urge policymakers to stop ignoring the fact that a family’s socioeconomic background has a significant impact on how a child performs in school. “Since they can’t take on poverty itself,” they write, “education policy makers should try to provide poor students with the social support and experiences that middle-class students enjoy as a matter of course.” Source: The New York Times
