Last week, the five 2014 inductees into the National Teachers Hall of Fame traveled to Washington D.C. to visit the White House and take part in the Teacher of the Year celebration in the lead-up to National Teacher Appreciation Week. Three of the inductees, NEA members Jan Alderson, Marguerite Izzo and Gary Koppelman stopped by NEA headquarters and offered their thoughts on what being a teacher means to them.

Jan Alderson: “The Best Gift For Me is When I See Success in the Classroom”

Marguerite Izzo: “I Get to Spend the Day with Fabulous Colleagues Who Never Stop Learning”

Gary Koppelman: “Words of Appreciation From Their Students Will Always Bless a Teacher”

  1. Nathaniel Wenger says:

We thank our teachers for everything except you never taught us to watch our leader. Knowing if there is law is better than picking someone who says there is law. You taught me about Syria, and Egypt, and the holocaust but you never taught me wengerocracy.
