Romney Admits Education Policy is Intended to Kill Teacher Unions

In a recent interview with Fox News, GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney laid out  his union-busting agenda for all to see. Romney said the reason control of education should be returned to the states is because “those federal teachers unions have too much power. In some cases, they overwhelm the states, they overwhelm the local school districts. We have got to put the kids first and put these teacher’s unions behind.”  Source: Crooks and Liars

The entire political and media world are missing significant facts: states with unionized teachers have higher test scores than states WITHOUT unionized teachers. Primarily, the reason for this success is that teacher unions fight for and often obtain classrooms with smaller class size, better physical teaching conditions, and better benefits, thereby promoting the hiring of the best teachers for these competitive positions. Go Romney. If the teachers unions can’t help communities get rid of bad teachers, and insist on intimidating school districts into keeping them FOREVER, they need to be held accountable.
